Quercetin-Based Nanocomposites as a Tool to Improve Dental Disease Management

2020

The restoration and prosthetic rehabilitation of missing teeth are commonly performed using dental implants, which are extremely effective and long-lasting techniques due to their osteointegration ability with the preimplant tissues. Quercetin is a phytoestrogen-like flavonoid well known for its several positive effects on human health, mostly linked to the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial activities against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Moreover, many studies in dentistry and the maxillofacial fields have highlighted the positive effects of quercetin on osteogenesis, acting on osteoblast activity and angiogenetic process, and promoting soft and hard tissue…

Predominance of inductive over resonance substituent effect on33S NMR chemical shifts of 4-substituted phenyl-4′-methylphenacyl sulfones

1999

33S NMR chemical shifts have been determined for the first time for a series of 10 substituted phenacyl sulfones. Electron-withdrawing and electron-releasing substituents in 4-substituted phenyl-4′-methylphenacyl sulfones, p-MeC6H4COCH2SO2C6H4R-p, cause a ‘reverse’ substituent effect on the 33S NMR resonance. Dual-substituent parameter (DSP) analysis of δ(33S) values revealed that the inductive effect of the substituent predominates over its resonance effect. This finding shows that the 33S NMR chemical shifts are of importance in estimating the electronic properties of sulfur-containing compounds. The 13C and 17O NMR chemical shifts of the title compounds are also discussed. Copyright © 19…

Structure and properties of some nitro derivatives of N -methyl- N -phenylnitramine

2000

Abstract Ten mono-, di- and tri-nitro derivatives of N-methyl-N-phenylnitramine were prepared and investigated using spectral and electrooptical methods. Three of them, viz. N-(2, 5-dinitrophenyl)-N-methylnitramine (monoclinic, P21/c, a=8.248(2), b=11.655(2), c=10.404(2) A , β=102.57(2)°), N-(2,3-dinitrophenyl)-N-methylnitramine (monoclinic, P21/c, a=9.224(2), b=7.222(2), c=15.458(4) A , β=101.08(2)°)) and N-(3,5-dinitrophenyl)-N-methylnitramine (monoclinic, P21/n, a=9.814(2), b=12.000(2), c=8.865(2) A , β=114.94(2)°) were examined by the X-ray diffraction method. The nitramino group is nearly planar with the short N(7)–N(8) bond and strongly electron deficient N(8) atom. The nitramino grou…

Ab Initio Studies of Disilazanes:  Structures and Vibrational Properties of Hexachloro-, Hexamethyl-, and Tetrachlorodisilazane

1999

The structures of hexachlorodisilazane, NH(SiCl3)2, and hexamethyldisilazane, NH(SiMe3)2, have been calculated at HF/6-31G* and MP2/6-31G* levels. Both contain planar HNSi2 skeletons and show the expected staggering of the substituents as seen along the Si‚‚‚Si direction, as previously found in the electron diffraction structure of the hexamethyl compound. Unlike the latter, however, the ab initio structures both belong to the C2 point group. Force fields for these two molecules and for tetrachlorodisilazane, NH(SiHCl 2)2, were calculated at the HF level and scaled to produce vibration frequencies for comparison with previously obtained spectra. For NH(SiCl3)2, all but five of the fundament…

Most of the field/inductive substituent effect works through the bonds

2019

AbstractAn application of the quantum chemical modeling allowed to investigate the nature of the field/inductive substituent effect (SE). For this purpose, series of X-tert-butyl···tert-butane (TTX) complexes (where X = NMe2, NH2, OH, OMe, Me, H, F, Cl, CF3, CN, CHO, COMe, CONH2, COOH, NO2, NO) were studied. A starting distance between central carbon atoms in substituted and unsubstituted fragments of TTX, dC1–C4, was the same as the distance C1–C4 in X-substituted bicyclo[2.2.2]octane (BCO), where the SE acts both via bonds and via space. A strength of interaction between substituted and unsubstituted components of TTX was described by deformation and interaction energies. The substituent …

1981

Polyamides 3 containing constant and definite numbers of oxyethylene units were prepared by condensation polymerization of suitable diamines and diesters, both of which containing oxyethylene units. The polymer structure was determined by IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. Almost all polymers are crystals melting at ≈ 40°C and show a complexation ability towards alkalimetal cations. It was also found that diesters containing oxyethylene units show a higher condensation rate than alkylene diesters, which is explained by an inductive effect of the ether oxygene. However, no remarkable difference in the condensation rate was found between diamines containing oxyethylene units and the corresponding al…

Substituent effects of nitro group in cyclic compounds

2020

AbstractNumerous studies on nitro group properties are associated with its high electron-withdrawing ability, by means of both resonance and inductive effect. The substituent effect of the nitro group may be well described using either traditional substituent constants or characteristics based on quantum chemistry, i.e., cSAR, SESE, and pEDA/sEDA models. Interestingly, the cSAR descriptor allows to describe the electron-attracting properties of the nitro group regardless of the position and the type of system. Analysis of classical and reverse substituent effects of the nitro group in various systems indicates strong pi-electron interactions with electron-donating substituents due to the re…
